Doha, Qatar: Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, 35, is still scoring goals for Juventus and Portugal as if its the easiest thing in the world and it looks like he has the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in his sights even though it's almost three years away.
But Ronaldo has an even bigger chance of playing Qatar this March and could even score his 100th goal in the Qatari capital as his Portugal side will play in the Qatar Airways four-nation tournament.
Qatar's national airlines tweeted on Friday that Belgium, Croatia, Portugal and Switzerland will be competing in the first edition of the tournament in March.
"Mark your calendar for a new, exciting football experience in #Qatar. Belgium, Croatia, Portugal and Switzerland national teams will compete to win the first edition of the Qatar Airways International Tournament. March 2020. #QatarAirways," read the tweet.
Ronaldo is on 99 international goals after scoring in a 2-0 win at Luxembourg in 2019 November as Portugal qualified for the 2020 European Championship.
While Ronaldo-led Portugal, the 2016 European champions, are the champions of the UEFA Nations League, Belgium, comprising a galaxy of top stars including Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, and Romelu Lukaku, are the top-Ranked team in the world.
Croatia, ranked sixth in the world, are the runners up at the 2018 World Cup where they lost to hosts France in the final, while Switzerland, ranked 12th in the world too are a big team, making the tournament to be held during the next international window (March 23-31) a mouth-watering prospect.
Qatar are busy preparing the stadiums and other infrastructure for the World Cup and could unveil the Education City Stadium, Al Rayyan Stadium and Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor during the tournament.
