SAUDI Arabia won the GCC Under-19 Championship, beating Qatar 3-0 in their last round-robin match at the ASPIRE Academy ground last week.
The hosts managed just a win against Bahrain, but lost to the UAE and Oman to finish fourth in the five-team competition.
Oman came second followed by the UAE while Bahrain finished last.
The indifferent results may give Qatar coach Oscar Cano some food for thought as they prepare to defend the Asian U-19 title in Bahrain from October 13 to 30.
A total of 16 teams will play in the tournament and the top four qualify for next year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea. DSP
