DOHA: Baghdad Bounedjah pumped in five goals as Al Sadd drubbed Al Arabi 7-0 to climb to the top of the Qatar Stars League standings on Thursday.
After Iranian defender Morteza Mohammed gave Sadd the lead in the fifth, Baghdad struck in the 28th, 38th, 45th, 79th and 83rd minutes to put his team on the path of a big win. Substitute Khalfan Ibrahim completed the rout in the 81st.
Meanwhile, Al Kharaitiyat's hopes of staying in the top flight got a big fillip when they scored two goals in as many minutes in the second half to shock El Jaish 2-1 at the Al Arabi Stadium.
Abdulziz Al Ansari did the star turn for the winners, when he volleyed home a swirling corner by Anwar Diba in the 63rd and set up with Rachid Tiberkanine with another deft touch a minute later.
Brazilian striker Romarinho had put Jaish ahead as early as the seventh minute.
Meanwhile, Al Rayyan drubbed Muaither 5-0 to continue their impressive march.
Sergio Garcia (fourth and 21st) and Rodrigo Tabata (54th and 57th) scored a brace each after Sebastian Soria gave the Lions a dream lead in the second minute.
