THE Third Samla Desert Extreme Trek, which covers 200km and carries a total prize money of QR1.35m, will be held from April 9 to 12.
The third edition’s logo and programme were unveiled at a Press conference held at the Katara cultural village recently.
The event, to be held from Sealine to Al Jemaila Town, is open to Qatari male competitors above 18. The number of entries for this year’s Samla, which stands for persistence, patience and challenge, has already reached 420 and organisers are expecting it to cross 500 before registration ends on March 16.
The challenges at the event, which comprises 10 stages, include walking and running on sand dunes as well as normal surface, kayaking, shooting and cycling.
Organising Committee CEO Azzam bin Abdelaziz Al Mannai said the objective of Samla Desert Extreme Trek was to build a physically-fit Qatari generation.
“This year’s race promises to be exciting and arduous,” said Al Mannai. “By organising the event, we encourage young people to exercise the sport and consume only those foods that enhance their endurance capabilities.”
