Some of the world’s top Grandmasters including Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Hikaru Nakamura, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Wesley So will play in the inaugural PRO Chess League organised by www.chess.com.
Nearly 400 players, including more than 100 Grandmasters, will take part in the online competition, which will have four stages.
A total of 48 teams from North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa will compete for glory and $50,000 in prizes.
Teams comprising four players, will compete in as many divisions of 12 teams each. They are designed based on time zone to minimise scheduling conflicts. The league will be a unique platform for making the sport popular. The online matches will not last for more than an hour and viewers can watch it from any part of the world.
