Vietnam Sports Club first up for Al Arabi in last-eight round at Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship

NINH BINH, Vietnam: Qatar’s Al Arabi will take on Group A winners Vietnam Sports Club in their first match in the last-eight round of the SMM 2017 Asian Men’s Club Volleyball Championship at Ninh Binh, Vietnam, on Sunday. Arabi, who finished second in Group C after going down to Altay VC 25-27, 24-26, 22-25, will play Group A runners up Al Bahri Sport Club of Iraq in their second match. Group C winners Altay will also take on Vietnam Sports Club and Al Bahri to determine the quarterfinal line-up.

The other half of last-eight round features defending champions Bank Sarmayeh of Iran and Taichung Commercial Bank of Chinese Taipei, who both booked their berth from Group B. They will be joined by Japanese side Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza and Beijing Baic Motor of China as representatives of Group D.

All teams will play the other two sides who were not in their group in the preliminary round. Hence Bank Sarmayeh will take on Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza and Beijing Baic Motor, while the Japanese side’s second match will be against Taichung Commercial Bank.

Beijing Baic Motor will also play the Chinese Taipei team.

The winners of the first group in the last eight will take on the fourth placed team in the knockout-round quarterfinal. The runners up will take on the third-placed team in the other group.
