AL SHAHANIYA President Menahi Al Shammari expressed hope that they would raise their level by a few notches in the second phase and stay in the top flight.
The Oryxes, who signed Ivorian striker Jean Mangoua and Iranian midfielder Rahim Zahivi in place of Mohamed Tiaiba and Khaled Gourmi respectively, played out a 1-1 draw with Muaither in their 15th-round match last Sunday.
“I believe our new players did well in their first game against Muaither, which means they’ve quickly adapted to the league. However, they need more time to show their full potential. With time, they can only get better,” Al Shammari told www.qsl.com.qa.
The official said the club could not afford to make any mistakes in the second phase.
“We’re into the deciding second phase and we can’t afford to make any mistakes. It’s a very important time for the club. We must fight for every possible point to stay in the top flight. I hope we can rise to the challenge even though it’s a tough task,” said Al Shammari.
The top official hinted that they might strengthen the squad by signing a few Qatari players in the current transfer window.
“We’re also looking to strengthen the side by signing a few Qatari players. We’re currently looking at the available options to bolster our midfield and attack,” he said.
Al Shammari looked forward to their next game against Umm Salal on Saturday.
“It won’t be easy against Umm Salal. We held them 2-2 last time. We’ll have to be at full concentration to get a positive result,” said Al Shammari.
