Doha: Al Duhail coach Nabil Maaloul wants his side to continue at the same pace when they take on Al Shahania in the QNB Stars League on Thursday.
Duhail defeated Al Arabi 2-0 last week to open up a seven-point lead over Al Rayyan at the top of the table and Maaloul knows in Shahania they have a tricky opponents.
“This is an important match for us because it is the first game of the second leg. We want to continue at the same pace and we know that we are having a difficult game against a team that faced a number of difficulties. In the first leg, they managed to present themselves well in many matches,” said the Tunisian coach.
“We do not look only at the statistics, but on our preparations for each game. This season, we try to avoid any slip-ups and just think about achieving positive results in all games by keeping our performance up.
“I expect a difficult game, but as I always say to my players, they make the game easy or difficult. We are facing a tricky side, so we must focus more on the defence and offence.
Even though Rayyan stay second, third-placed Al Sadd, on 20 points from nine games, are the real challengers for the title alongside Duhail and Maloul said they were dangerous opponents.
“Although Al Sadd stumbled against Al Ahli, they came back strongly against Umm Salal,” said Maaloul. “We do not care about the fact that we are the leaders after the first leg and that the league title is in our sights. As I said before, the league will only be decided in the last few weeks.”
In the other matches, Qatar SC take on Al Gharafa, Sadd play Al Kharaitiyat, Al Ahli face Al Rayyan Al Khor clash with Al Arabi and Umm Salal meet Al Sailiya.
